BPL 2019: Rajshahi Kings rope in Christiaan Jonker and Qais Ahmad for the upcoming season

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Rajshahi Kings have brought in two overseas signings for the upcoming season of the tournament. South African newcomer Christiaan Jonker and the uncapped Afghanistan player Qais Ahmad will represent them in the sixth edition of the BPL which is slated to get underway in January 2019.

Jonker is one of South Africa‘s latest cricketers to represent them in the limited-overs formats. He made his international debut in February 2018 in a T20I against India at Cape Town and played his first ODI for the Proteas as recently as September 30 during their series against Zimbabwe. Although he’s only played a couple of T20s for his country, his strike rate currently stands at a whopping 196.55. Jonker has over 1700 runs in the shortest format, with the highest score of 66*.

Qais Ahmad, on the other hand, is a budding leg break bowler from Afghanistan. The 18-year old is currently representing the Balkh Legends in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) which is being played in Sharjah. The leggie, having played 10 T20 matches, has bagged 10 wickets at an average of 25. Most recently, he finished with impressive figures of 2 for 5 for his side in the APL against the Paktia Panthers.

The official Twitter handle of Rajshahi Kings confirmed the news of the new signings for the upcoming season and both will be looking to make a mark for the team.

Kings looking to improve

The Kings had a lot of T20 stars in their line-up last year but still, they finished at the sixth position in the points table. They could win only four matches out of 12 matches and all their losses were by a huge margin. However, the franchise is looking to move on from the disastrous season and will be keen on improving in the upcoming season.
