BPL 2019: Wayne Parnell to feature for Sylhet Sixers

The Sylhet Sixers are in dire straits in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). They are currently placed at the sixth position of the points table with only two wins from six matches. Moreover, their captain David Warner is also set to leave the franchise after playing the next match tomorrow against Rangpur Riders at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

The 32-year-old developed an elbow injury owing to which he would be returning to Australia on January 21. The experienced campaigner would be replaced by swashbuckling English batsman Jason Roy. Prior to leaving the T20 tournament, Warner said that he had a fantastic time, playing in the BPL. The southpaw also remarked that he would like to do something special for the Sixers.

In a recent development, it has been learned that Wayne Parnell has joined the team and he has replaced Imran Tahir, the South African spin bowler as per reports in www.thedailystar.net. From here on, the Sixers would need to win most of their matches and Tahir’s exclusion won’t come as happy news for them. Nevertheless, Parnell also has the ability to weave magic with bat and ball.

Poor show against Dhaka

Sylhet recently played a match against table-toppers Dhaka Dynamites and lost by six wickets. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the hosts made sure that they put forth a substantial total of 158 for eight on the board. Warner, following his fifty against the Riders, stepped up again and scored 63 from 43 balls with the help of eight boundaries and one hit over the ropes.

While defending the good score, they picked up three early wickets to push Dhaka on the backfoot. Nevertheless, Shakib Al Hasan and Andre Russell took their bowling by the scruff of its neck and made the match a one-sided affair. The Dynamites won the encounter with three overs left. Going into their forthcoming matches, the Sixers can’t afford to be complacent by any means.
