BPL 3: Shakib Al Hasan leads the wicket takers list: 28-year-old, left-arm spinning all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan is the leading wicket-taker in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 3.

With 40 wickets from 27 matches, with 4/16 being the best performance, at an average of 17.02, strike rate of 15.4 and an economy of 6.63, Shakib leads the pack in the domestic T20 competition.

Playing and captaining Rangpur Riders in the match against Dhaka Dynamites on 25^th November 2015, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, he produced his best bowling performance (4/16), accounting for both the openers, Nasir Jamshed (11) and Shamsur Rahman (2).  He followed it up with the wickets of Nasir Hussain (15) and Farhad Reza (1). Opening the bowling attack, Shakib gave way 16 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

Batting first, after winning the toss, Rangpur Riders, put up 176 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Lendl Simmons contributed 51 runs with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes, facing only 39 deliveries at 130.76 strike rate. Mohammad Mithun, wicket-keeper came up with 34 runs (41m, 22b, 3 fours, 2 sixes) while Shakib Al Hasan made a useful contribution of 24.

Chasing a target of 177 runs Dhaka Dynamites, led by the Sri Lankan legend, Kumara Sangakkara could manage to score only 107 runs in 19.4 overs, with Sangakkara being the top scorer putting up 29 runs. Riders won the game by 69 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan’s efforts with both the ball and the bat earned him the Player of the Match award.

Being an all-rounder, Shakib has also contributed significantly with the bat. In the 27 games played, thus far, being unbeaten on 7 occasions he has accumulated 673 runs with the help of 66 fours and 21 sixes, at a decent average of 33.65 with 86* being his best individual score. He also has three half-centuries to his credit.

In the tournament that is underway these days featuring in 4 games, Shakib has picked up 10 wickets at an average of 9.20, at a strike rate of 8.4 and with his economy rate reading 6.57, 4/16 being his best bowling performance.

With the bat, he has contributed 64 runs at an average of 21.33 with 33 runs being his highest score. The tournament being a long one, Shakib will get many opportunities to put better performances in the days to come. He had also donned the colours of Dhaka Gladiators and Khulna Royal Bengals.
