In recent developments from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the Dhaka leg of the country’s premier T20 event is all set to be rescheduled with the evening games of the Dhaka leg of the tournament beginning at 1830 hours local time instead of the 1900 hours. The BPL officials confirmed the news on Sunday.
Currently, Sylhet is hosting the matches of the tournament and the Sylhet phase of BPL would end on November 8. The decision of rescheduling the tournament could not be taken with immediate effect as it would create broadcast hassles.
“We would start the second game half-an-hour earlier from Dhaka phase. We cannot do it here as there is a lot of things involved but it won’t be the case in Dhaka,” revealed Ismail Haider Mallik, the Governing Council of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), according to Cricbuzz on Sunday.
The officials further confirmed that both games played on Friday will start at 1.30 PM and 6.30 PM local time instead of 2 PM and 7 PM local time respectively.
The move to rescheduled enforced due to dew factor
The move to reschedule the matches came after comments from Rangpur Riders captain Mashrafe Mortaza and Rajshahi Kings captain Darren Sammy. The two captains suggested that dew played a vital part during the first few games of the tournament.
With the dew factor, it becomes easy for the captain in opting to field first, thereby, giving the side an unfair advantage. With an early start, the dew factor may be eradicated partially. The Dhaka leg of the tournament is scheduled to commence from November 11.
In the four matches played so far in the tournament, Sylhet Sixers overhauled Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians by 6 wickets and 4 wickets respectively while Rangpur Riders came out triumphant in their face-off against Rajashahi Kings. Dhaka Dynamites came back strongly after defeating the Khulna Titans by 65 runs.
