Brad Hogg against MS Dhoni playing the T20 World Cup in Australia
Hogg feels that Dhoni hasn't had much international experience in recent times.
MS Dhoni, the veteran Indian cricketer, hasn’t played any competitive cricket ever since the 2019 World Cup. Martin Guptill ran him out in the semis at the Old Trafford in Manchester in July last year and that was the last time the fans saw the 38-year-old on the field. Since then, there have been talks of when he will be bidding adieu to cricket and his plans for the future.
MSK Prasad, the former selection panel chief, said that the team has looked beyond Dhoni. Subsequently, the Men in Blue have been grooming the likes of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. Most of the experts have had their say on what the Jharkhand-born should be doing going into the future. Even his parents and childhood coach have opined on the ever-lasting matter.
Dhoni is set to play in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will be playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the three-time champions of the T20 league. But now with the coronavirus pandemic postponing the IPL, it remains to be seen when Dhoni will return to the pitch.
Hogg opines on Dhoni
Recently, a supporter asked Brad Hogg, the former Australian cricketer, whether the tweaker wanted Dhoni to ply trade in the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year. The fan took to Twitter and wrote. “@Brad_Hogg Sir, Do you want Dhoni to play in T20 World Cup?”
Hogg reckons that Dhoni shouldn’t be included in India’s squad. The same is for the reason that he hasn’t played international cricket for a whole lot of time. Moreover, he thinks that even if Dhoni plays the IPL, he won’t be the desired amount of practice. It’s for the reason that the conditions in Australia won’t be similar to the one in the domestic T20 tournament in India.
He replied the fan and wrote. “Pending IPL performances, but sadly I think not, due to lack of international exposure lately & IPL he is playing the majority of games in Chennai (if it goes ahead) which is suited for spin not pace, the conditions he will get in Australia. #hoggytime #IPLT20.”
