In a recent development, Mike Hesson, the coach of the New Zealand cricket team, resigned from his role yesterday. He was appointed as the coach in 2012 and he took some bold moves, one of which was replacing Ross Taylor with Brendon McCullum as the captain of the team. The decision was deemed hasty by the public and drew flaks from them.
The bold move didn’t backfire whatsoever as Baz changed the face of their cricket. He took the Kiwis to the final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Down Under. Albeit the Black Caps couldn’t turn over the Aussie at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), McCullum and Co were appreciated for their strong show in the most prestigious ODI tournament.
The praises for Hesson
Following Hesson’s step down, the former cricketer lauded him for his contributions towards their cricket. He also hailed him for being the best ever. “I regard him as the best coach the Black Caps have ever had. You’d imagine he’ll have a few offers to sift through,” McCullum was quoted as saying by nzherald.co.nz.
Current New Zealand captain Kane Williamson also expressed his gratitude for Hesson and appreciated his approach to getting the job done. “I’ve witnessed his work ethic first hand and have seen the sacrifices he’s made and can only say I have the utmost respect for what he’s achieved,” Williamson mentioned.
New Zealand is scheduled to tour the United Arab Emirates (UAE) later this year to play Pakistan. David White the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of their cricket, seemed calm about who they are going to rope in as Hesson’s replacement. “NZC’s next engagement is against Pakistan in the UAE in October, so there’s no rush to make a new appointment,” the CEO mentioned.
