Brendon McCullum’s love affair with April 18th and IPL

McCullum has played some sensational innings on 18th April but nothing better than the 158 in the inaugural match IPL way back in 2008.

In 2012, McCullum was back with the Kolkata franchise but not with the form. In Mohali Kings XI Punjab won the toss and chose to bat first. But the hosts could muster only 126 in their quota of 20 overs. Many expected McCullum to blaze away and win it for his side.

But this time around it was an anti-climax. He struggled throughout his innings during the chase as his partner Gambhir scored at pace. The opening pair added over 50 runs within the power play but the New Zealand batsman was struggling on his favourite day. Eventually, he got out more of frustration other than anything off Chawla. McCullum could only master 15 off 18 balls and could not make any impact on the game but still, his side won easily as they were chasing a low total.
