The Brisbane Heat have made a very bold move by signing the former New Zealand cricket team skipper Brendon McCullum for another two years. The recent signing of two years with the Heats essentially boils up to Brendon’s availability in the BBL (Big Bash League) for at most three more seasons. He is set to be a part of the Heat roster until the 2019/20 edition of the tournament for sure.

The Heats have also resigned Chris Lynn for another couple of years as well. It is a very strategic move by the Heats to have two of the biggest hitters of the competition retained in their side. Both players were arguably the most impactful players in the previous edition of the BBL for the Brisbane Heat. The team management oozed confidence and happiness as they spoke about the dual signing of Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn.

“It’s been an important year with the management of our playing list with a large number of players committing to long-term deals including Chris Lynn. Brendon’s impact on our club on and off the field is significant and the values that he represents are also those that we see as integral to the Brisbane Heat,” quoted Heat general manager Andrew McShea as per the official website of the BBL.

“To extend his contract through to the end of BBL|09, provides our fans, members and commercial partners with a clear identity of our club,” he added further.

Vettori showers praises too

In the recent times, Brendon McCullum has had fitness issues though. The Heats head coach, Daniel Vettori, explained that he has been shaping up well and they are looking forward to his contribution to the team. McCullum was the part of the victorious Rangpur Riders team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) recently.

“He has made an excellent recovery from the broken arm and his last three or four innings in Bangladesh were impressive. We’re all looking forward to getting straight into our preparations ahead of Wednesday’s game,” conceded Daniel Vettori.
