Brendon McCullum wants kids to bat like Kane Williamson and not him
McCullum has so far scored 258 runs in 6 games for Gujarat with a strike-rate of 150.87.
Gujarat Lions Brendon McCullum did have a good start to the tenth season of the Indian Premier League but has not been able to do his team any good as they have lost four of their first six matches. Though McCullum has been among runs since the start of this season Gujarat have ended up on the losing side more often due to a toothless bowling attack.
The batsman’s best knock of the season came when he scored a 44-ball 72 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He also hit a quick 17-ball 33 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in his team’s last game which the Gujarat Lions won by 4 wickets.
McCullum has been one of the best power hitters to have ever graced the cricket field. But one would be surprised to know that the former Kiwi skipper does not want kids to follow his style of batting. Instead, he wants them to have a more technical approach to the game like current New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson whose start to the tenth season of the Indian Premier League was quite wonderful.
McCullum took it to Twitter to express his thoughts and wrote “One piece of advice, probably better to try play like Kane Williamson rather than me. Less frustration for sure! Haha,”
Kane Williamson who is not considered as a power hitter showed his class to his detractors in his first outing against the Delhi Daredevils. The batsman scored an amazing 51-ball 89 with which he proved to the world that he is a player who can play all versions of the game equally well.
McCullum has so far scored 258 runs in 6 games for Gujarat at a strike-rate of 150.87. He has hit 22 boundaries and 16 sixes. Since the start of this year’s IPL, he has managed scores of 35, 5, 49, 64, 72, 33.
