Dean Jones suffered cardiac arrest in the hotel lobby.
Former Australia cricketer Dean Jones passed away of cardiac arrest on Thursday. It came as a shocking piece of news for the fraternity and especially for the ones who were with him in the hotel. He was the part of the Star Sports’ commentary panel for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was in the bio-bubble at a hotel in Mumbai.
Irfan Pathan also tweeted of being shocked having worked with him on Wednesday in the Star Sports studio. He also said that they came in a car together and all was fine until morning on Thursday. However, it has now been reported that former Australia cricketer Brett Lee was with Jones when he was suffered cardiac arrest.
Rather, according to NDTV, both the Australians had their breakfast together in the morning. Dean Jones suffered cardiac arrest in the lobby of the hotel and Lee was besides him at that time too who tried to resuscitate him by giving him CPR. However, his efforts, unfortunately, couldn’t save Jones.
Dean Jones was a fine player and an even better coach and commentator
Dean Jones played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for Australia scoring 3631 and 6068 runs in the two formats respectively. Overall, he scored 18 centuries which also included a couple of double tons in the longest form of the game. After hanging his boots from the sport, Jones became a commentator and did a fine job in connecting with his audience.
He also became the head coach of the Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and led them to the title in the 2018 season. Last year, he was the head coach of the Karachi Kings as well. Several former cricketers tweeted for him after the news of demise came out.
“Absolutely heartbreaking news about Dean Jones passing away. A wonderful soul taken away too soon. Had the opportunity to play against him during my first tour of Australia. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his loved ones,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.
