Brett Lee has urged the Bangladeshi fast bowler Rubel Hossain not to get demoralized due to the thumping he received at the hands of the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik the other night in the final of the Nidahas Trophy. The equation of the final match was tilted heavily in Bangladesh’s favour when Rubel started the 19th over of the Indian innings, but Karthik hit two fours and two sixes in that over and changed the scenario of the game upside down.
Rubel who has been Bangladesh’s go-to bowler in the death for quite some time now due to his slingy action and his abilities to bowl Yorkers missed his length on quite a few occasions and Karthik, who was absolutely at the top of his game, made sure he punished Rubel properly for every loose ball he bowled.
The match eventually resulted in a Bangladesh loss as Karthik dragged India over the line with a brilliant six off the last ball of the 20th over which was bowled by Soumya Sarkar. Rubel clearly felt that it was his mistake which cost his team the game as he didn’t leave enough to defend for Sarkar who was only a part-timer.
He posted an emotional message on his Facebook page which translates to- “Feeling devastated after the completion of the match. I have never thought that Bangladesh would lose because of me after reaching so close to victory. I am apologetic to everyone. Kindly accept my apologies.”
Here’s what Rubel posted on his Facebook handle
However, Lee, being a former fast bowler for Australia himself, knew that it could happen to any bowler in the world on a given day and therefore he was very sympathetic towards Rubel.
The 41-year old quoted Rubel’s tweet last night and asked him not to be ashamed of himself and rather should hold his head high as he gave it his all on the ground and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
Here’s what Lee tweeted
Hold your head high Rubel, you tried your best and I’m sure your country is proud of you ?? https://t.co/zkw4TEdrzY
