Brian Lara names the finalists of the 2019 World Cup
He also talked about Windies' performance against India.
The 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales is merely six and a half months away and the excitement surrounding the tournament is on an escalation. The 50-overs event is scheduled to kick-start on Thursday, May 30 with the match between the hosts and South Africa at Kennington Oval in London. A total of ten teams would be fighting it out to be crowned as the champions.
In the meantime, Brian Lara, the former Windies cricketer, named the teams which can meet in the final of the extravaganza. Moreover, he also didn’t mince any words in saying that Pakistan, most likely to be captained by Sarfraz Ahmed, would undoubtedly enter the tournament as the dark horses. The veteran also said that India are a bit too dependant on the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
You need good players from No. 4 to 7
“England is a very strong team. Though it has not won any major events, at home it should be a difficult proposition. India has been consistently playing well. However, it (playing in England) is different compared to doing well at home. It looks it is too dependent on Rohit (Sharma) and Kohli.
You need to have good players from No. 4 to 7 as there is no guarantee of the top-order clicking all the time,” Lara was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The Windies are currently in India, playing the three-match T20I series, which they have already lost following defeats in Kolkata and Lucknow respectively. The third T20I and also the dead rubber will be played today at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Prior to that, the Caribbean team also slumped to 2-0 in the Test series and then 3-1 in the ODI series.
Talking about the national team’s performances in both red and white-ball fixtures, Lara mentioned, “They could have done better. We have left a legacy in this format (Test cricket) with all our hard work and skills. Test matches getting over in just three days is not a very good sign for West Indies cricket.”
