Brian Lara wants a Windies cricketer to replicate Virat Kohli
Hope has been in tremendous form in the ongoing ODI series.
The Windies cricket team has taken one and all by a huge astonishment with their performance in the ODI series against India. After they were humbled in the first game, the visitors came back hard at the opposition in the next two matches. The team tied the second ODI and went on to win the third. Former cricketer Brian Lara seemed to be mighty impressed with the performance from the team.
He noted that beating India in their own backyard is not an easy achievement. He termed the win in the third ODI as very ‘convincing’ but mentioned that there was still a scope for improvement. Also, he opined that the Windies cricket is heading in the right direction at the moment.
“The fact that West Indies could win a game and still have a lot of room for improvement is a big facet,” he said. Also, he heaped a lot of praise of Shai Hope while also mentioning that he should be able to do what Virat Kohli does for India.
Lara heaps praise on Shai Hope
“Shai Hope is an excellent player. I’ll always go back to those centuries in both innings of the Test match at Headingley against England. I felt from that point, it should’ve been a watershed moment in his career, telling him exactly how good a cricketer he is.”
“And here he is in India, his counterpart, the person who is batting at number three for India, Virat Kohli; he doesn’t need to be anywhere else. He should be just looking at Virat Kohli, how he puts together an innings, how he anchors his team. And, that’s what he has to do for the West Indies,” he said while speaking to Cricket Next.
Furthermore, he wants Shai Hope to convert his innings to something big every single time he gets past 15 or 20 runs. Lara felt that setting these high standards would help the youngster achieve better results.
