Brisbane Heat superstar Chris Lynn, who kicked off yet another BBL season in ballistic form, has earned the trust of none other than New Zealand legend and Heat head coach Daniel Vettori who feels that the ‘Lynntastic’ batsmen isn’t just a ball basher and feels that he can excel in all form of the game.
Lynn has made it a habit of producing brutal batting display and recently smashed an unbeaten 84 for Brisbane Heat against Hobart Hurricanes before having played a similar knock of 85 against Sydney Thunder. These performances have left a number of fans in awe.
Daniel Vettori, the Heat coach, has backed Lynn to excel in all formats and not label him as a limited-overs basher. “You become immune to it because you see his quality of striking all the time,” Vettori said on Saturday (December 31). “Where he has excelled over the last couple of years is that he has a really strong gameplan.
“I don’t think people give him enough credit. His understanding and intelligence about the game is the reason he is doing so well.”
Vettori has been impressed with the cricketing brain Lynn posses and felt he has all the ingredients to be successful in the longer formats as well. “His record speaks for itself in all formats,” he pointed out. “He is an aggressive player but he is also highly skillful and a very thoughtful player. That’s the combination of things you want in any format.”
However, Lynn has been troubled by a shoulder injury and has had to miss quite a few games. The right-hander hasn’t played any Sheffield Shield games so far after he suffered his third shoulder injury.
Lynn’s display and Brendon McCullum’s half-century meant Heat cruised past the target of 174 with ease.Lynn completed the run chase with two straight sixes but the talking point was that maximum off an unsuspecting Tait.
“When blokes like Taity are bowling that quick it’s either ‘I have to get them or they get me’ – that’s my theory,” Lynn said.
“Obviously the (Test) ambition is there but it is hard to put a name in front of selectors when I haven’t hit a red ball for close to 12 months now,” he said. “I’d like to get a full season out the way, get the shoulder right and then we will see what happens.”
