'Brothers': AB de Villiers reacts to Virat Kohli’s stunning six off Kesrick Williams
Kohli and Kesrick Williams had something of a rivalry going on throughout the series
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli share a special friendship that transcends the boundaries of countries. The one-time international batting rivals, both the batsmen have become the core of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the IPL, on whom the batting of the franchise depends. They are the only two batsmen with two double century partnerships to their name in the high-octane league.
Meanwhile, though De Villiers has retired from international cricket, he has continued to feature in various T20 leagues all over the world and was seen playing in the Mzansi Premier League’s latest season. The magical right-handed batsman has been in news recently for signing up for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League, which will be his first time in the Australian T20 league.
AB de Villiers lauds Virat Kohli’s innings in Mumbai T20I
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli led India to a 2-1 series win in the T20I series against the defending T20 Champions West Indies, captained by Kieron Pollard. India had won the first T20I in Hyderabad in style with the captain registering his highest score in the international T20s- 94*. West Indies won the next game in Trivandrum easily as the Indian problem of defending totals came back to bite them and both teams went into Mumbai game with series on the line.
Kohli and Kesrick Williams had something of a rivalry going on throughout the series, with Kohli first mocking him in his own notebook-style celebration in Hyderabad, while Williams shushed the crowd in Trivandrum after getting Kohli out. But Kohli had the last laugh, as he hit Williams for an amazing six with just a flick of wrists and had an expression of wow on his face while staring at the right-arm pacer.
A Twitter user shared the photo of Kohli saying, “He has definitely picked this from @ABdeVilliers17”. De Villiers saw the tweet and replied, “😀brothers”
India was again asked to bat first by Pollard after winning the toss. However, he wouldn’t have expected the hurricane of runs that came his way as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took apart the opposition bowling attack. Rohit scored a brilliant 71 in 34 balls before getting out.
But he has added 135 runs with Rahul in 11.4 overs. In came Virat Kohli, who hit 7 sixes and 4 fours in his 29-ball 70*. Rahul, on the other hand, made a stupendous 91 in 56 balls. In reply, though Pollard hit a valiant fifty, the top order failed to give the perfect start needed to overhaul the total of 240 runs and lost the match by 67 runs and series 2-1.
