Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, made a delightful start to the T20 World Cup warm-ups. On Monday, October 18, the Men in Green defeated the West Indies by seven wickets, having chased down 131 with as many as 27 balls to spare. In the meantime, Babar and Shadab Khan were involved in a hilarious incident after the Caribbean team opted to bat first.

In the second ball of the first over from Shaheen Afridi, Lendl Simmons got an inside-edge, but he ran a quick single to get off the mark. There was a direct hit, but Andre Fletcher made his ground at the striker’s end. Thereafter, The Lahore-born Babar took a dig at Shadab’s fielding in a hilarious way, saying that the latter has grown old.

“Budday ho gaye ho x2 Jawani vich tera run out se.” (You’ve grown old otherwise it would have been a wicket if you were young)”

Babar Azam shines with the bat

Babar had an excellent day, both as a batter and a captain. Even as his team was stupendous across all the departments, Babar did an excellent job with the bat. Opening the batting with Mohammad Rizwan, the right-hander notched 50 runs off 41 balls with the help of six fours and one six. Hayden Walsh Jr. got rid of him in the 12th over, but by then, Pakistan were on the driver’s seat.

He got the apt support from Fakhar Zaman, who made an unbeaten 24-ball 46 with the help of four fours and two sixes. Zaman was roped in from the reserves as Pakistan made three changes to their 15-member squad before the tournament. As far as Shadab was concerned, he bowled only two overs where he gave away seven runs at a decent economy rate of 3.50.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets apiece. Imad Wasim got the wicket of Roston Chase. Pakistan will next lock horns with South Africa in their second warm-up match. Azam’s men will face India on Sunday, October 24 in Dubai to start their campaign in the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup 2021.
