'Byomkesh' fame Rajit Kapur to play Ramakant Achrekar on screen

Reel life Byomkesh Bakshi will now don the hat of the coach, and his student will be none other than the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Veteran actor Rajit Kapur will portray the role of Ramakant Achrekar in Pramod Purswane’s documentary-drama ‘Sir’, which is inspired by the life of Ramakant Achrekar.

The versatile theatre artist and Bollywood actor who rose to fame after playing the main protagonist in ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’  sounded excited about the new challenge. The actor is currently busy shooting for the documentary and the majority of the portions have been shot.

Challenging role

“It was something interesting. When the director approached me, I listened to the idea to understand the requirement. Since there’s not much footage of Achrekar available, we decided to go with a character play. We still have a few more sequences to shoot,” Kapur said. Admitting that it is a challenge to portray the character of a talked about coach, Kapur said as per the quotes on Sportstar, “Without any challenge, there is no fun.”

Sachin was thrilled

Former Mumbai cricketer and Achrekar’s student Atul Ranade has brought the whole team together and also discussed the very idea with Sachin Tendulkar and his brother Ajit. Both the brothers were thrilled upon knowing. He also said that it is not a biopic and talks about the student-teacher relationship.

“It is not a biopic. It revolves around the student-teacher relationship and also shows how Achrekar sir produced a talent like Sachin. When we discussed the idea with Sachin and his brother Ajit, they were thrilled,” Ranade said, adding that Purswane’s film will help youngsters learn the importance of a teacher-student bonding.

The shoot is expected to be wrapped up in few days time as the major portions have been shot and the documentary will be releasing on December 3, which also happens to be Achrekar’s birthday.
