One of India’s two women players in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) Indian Twenty20 Internationals skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been charged for breaching the Cricket Australia (CA) Code of Conduct during the WBBL match between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunders at Hobart. Harmanpreet breached Article 2.1.2 of the Code of Conduct – abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match, which is a Level 1 offence.

While playing for Thunders in the game against Hurricanes the right-handed batter was dismissed for just 6 runs from 10 balls that ended her 22 runs partnership for the third wicket with Alex Blackwell. That left them three wickets down for 80 runs. A poor batting show saw lose the match by 6 wickets.

The CA Code of Conduct has a provision for the match referee to consider the on-field umpires’ written report. Roy Loh the match referee for the game received the report from the officials and acted upon by imposing a sanction as well as reprimanded the player.

There was no official hearing in the case since Harmanpreet accepted the match referee’s sanction. Earlier Harmanpreet became the first Indian woman cricketer to be picked for the WBBL after she earned a contract from the Sydney based Thunders franchise. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a stand out decision had allowed the female cricketers to sign-up for overseas T20 leagues.
