The Cricket Association of Bengal‘s (CAB) financial committee has disclosed that the state cricket association has a surplus of around Rs 3.5 crore in 2016. The amount was revealed after the financial committee met on Thursday night. The board also announced that former Bengal skipper Gopal Bose will be feted with the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the annual awards function to be held later in 2016.

“We have had surplus of Rs.3.5 crore this year,” CAB Treasurer Biswaroop Dey said after the meeting. The cricket governing body also has got a profit of Rs.16 crore from the International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20, which was held here in March-April. The iconic Eden Gardens had played host to the high-voltage India-Pakistan tie as well as the final which was played between the West Indies and England. “

The amount of surplus made by the Board is quite commendable considering the fact that the CAB suffered a huge loss in 2015. The blame was put on the members who received strong criticism.

The board has also come-up with a number of plans to promote Test cricket when it will play host to the second game between India and New Zealand in a series scheduled later in 2016. A total of Rs 60 lakh will be kept aside for carrying out promotional activities during the game.
