Cameron Bancroft's suspicious act has the umpires investigating
Bancroft could well be in trouble for his actions.
The drama continues to unfold in the ongoing Test series between South Africa and Australia at Newlands in Cape Town. The third day of the third Test match is hanging in the balance with the home side batting gamely to avoid any undue advantage for their opponents. The Australian bowlers are trying hard to pick wickets only to be denied by the hosts. Amidst all the action, the cameraman has caught the suspicious actions of Cameron Bancroft as he was found hiding something in his pants.
The second session of the ongoing Test match was nicely set up as the Australian bowlers extracted reverse swing with the clouds also hovering over the ground. It was the testing spell for the batsmen in the middle as Hashim Amla and Aiden Markram concentrated on surviving with some impeccable technique. While the former succumbed to the pressure as he was dismissed by Pat Cummins, Markram gave a good account of himself by scoring a stunning half-century.
Bancroft tampered the ball?
Cameron Bancroft, in the middle of all the intriguing action, was seen doing something with the ball. The yellow coloured chip-like object was in his hand and he used it to scratch the ball as it was clearly seen in the video going viral on social media. Moreover, the cricketer was later found hiding it in his pants after he realised that his acts were caught on the camera.
Soon umpires also had a chat and enquired Bancroft about the same even asking him to show off his pocket. The skipper Steve Smith also joined them soon to know what was happening as only a black coloured cloth was seen. But the cameras clearly showed that Bancroft was hiding the yellow coloured thing in his pants.
His actions will surely be scrutinised now and he could also be accused of ball tampering after clearly being caught on the camera. It would be interesting to see the way match referee reacts on the incident as the series heats up even further.
