The 4-0 score-line in India’s away T20I series against New Zealand doesn’t quite reveal the entire story. The Black Caps gave the Men in Blue a run for their money in three of the four matches. After the visitors got home while, chasing in excess of 200, they had their moments of jitters at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. The Kiwis took the game into the Super Over after Kane Williamson’s 95.

In the end, Rohit Sharma smacked Tim Southee for a couple of sixes to see India through to victory in the Super Over. A match of similar nature took place in the fourth T20I at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. This time around, the Black Caps didn’t have Williamson’s services and Southee had to don the captain’s hat. After winning the toss and electing to field, the hosts did an excellent job.

They restricted the Men in Blue to 165 in their 20 overs. Barring Manish Pandey, no other Indian batter could get the better of the New Zealand bowlers. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi was hard to get away and he picked up three crucial wickets, conceding only 26 runs in four overs. In the run-chase, the Kiwis could only muster 23 in the first five overs before Shardul Thakur gave away 16 runs.

India get home in thriller

Colin Munro and Tim Seifert churned out some lusty blows to keep the Black Caps in the game. After a number of twists and turns, the match went into the Super Over. Thakur was given the responsibility of defending seven runs in the final over and he did it with precision despite going for a boundary off Daryl Mitchell.  In the super over, the Kiwis could only manage 13 runs.

In the chase, KL Rahul hit Southee for a six followed by a boundary to bring India within touching distance. In the end, Virat Kohli hit the speedster for a four to bring the curtains down on the game. In the meantime, Ravi Shastri, the head coach of Team India, was astonished by the intensity of the game.

He uploaded three pictures from India’s victory to express his elation. Moreover, he captioned them and wrote, “Can be a real crazy game #INDvsNZ #SuperOver #TeamIndia,”
