There can be only one Sachin Tendulkar: Michael Kasprowicz
Kasprowicz recalled the Coca-Cola Cup with took place in Sharjah 19 years ago.
When a former member of the dominating Australian team watches Steve Smith and his men go down against India in almost every single match without giving a fight, they find it tough to deal with and remember the old days when every team feared to face them. The Australian team from a couple of decades ago used to make a mockery of any team which faced them, but a certain Sachin Tendulkar showed them the steel of the Men in Blue. As a result, member of the old Australian team, Michael Kasprowicz finds it difficult to compare any other player with the legend.
Owing to his unimaginable consistency and unmatched performances, current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has given an opportunity to cricket experts to compare him with Sachin. However, Kasprowicz feels there cannot be another Kohli when he remembers what Sachin did in Sharjah almost two decades ago. Asked to bat first by India, Australia scored 272 runs, courtesy smashing innings of 70 runs from both Steve Waugh and Darren Lehmann.
272 of that time isn’t the same as that of today. It was a tough task for the Indians, which became tougher after they lost Sourav Ganguly early. But a certain Sachin Tendulkar played a match winning knock of 134, which haunts the likes of Shane Warne and Tom Moody till date. Hence, when Kasprowicz was asked whether Kohli is in the same league as Tendulkar or not, he said, “There can only be one Sachin Tendulkar though Virat has got a phenomenal record and he is leading the team pretty well. But you cannot compare anyone to Sachin. When was it? 19 years ago I think. Sachin played like dream.”
Kasprowicz expects better results in T20Is
After the dreadful ODI series, the 45-year-old South Brisbane lad feels Australia will perform better in the T20Is. The reason for his statement was that in T20Is, the role of the middle-order isn’t as critical as it is in ODIs, and since Australia has a superb top order featuring Aaron Finch, David Warner and Steve Smith, who can give a tough competition to Kohli’s men.
“There isn’t a lot of time for the middle-order in the T20s. You are relying on your key batsmen. And I think that is what Australia have in David Warner, Steven Smith, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, who all have got plenty of IPL experience,” the owner of over 100 Test wickets was quoted by PTI.
