Pakistan bowling flourishing under Waqar

Ever since he became Pakistan’s bowling coach, a number of youngsters have come to the fore. Shaheen Shah Afridi has seen a meteoric rise after he grabbed the headlines in the 2018 U19 World Cup in New Zealand. Then came Mohammad Hasnain, who was also picked in the national squad for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. He didn’t play a single match though.

Haris Rauf has come up the ranks after he spent a couple of seasons for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He also went and shone for the Melbourne Stars in the 2019-20 Big Bash League (BBL). In the Australia tour, Pakistan gave Naseem Shah and Muhammad Musa Khan their maiden international caps. Shah has also gone on to pick up a Test hat-trick.

Recently, Waqar said that he will vacate the post of Pakistan’s bowling coach if he is unable to deliver good results. Younis, during his playing days, was sharp. He used to swing the ball at pace and rattled a lot of stumps.
