Mohammad Nabi, the skipper of the Afghanistan cricket team, elegantly shut down a journalist, who tried to ask him questions regarding the country’s political relations with Pakistan. Recently, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan and the journo tried to persuade Nabi to answer his questions surrounding the political turmoil in the nation.
He also asked if strong relations with Pakistan will help Afghanistan cricket grow further in the future. However, Nabi showed a lot of calmness and asked the journalist to stick to cricket-based questions and not go into political aspects of Afghanistan.
Nabi was attending the post-match press conference after Pakistan beat Afghanistan by five wickets on Friday, October 29 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
It would be better if we talk about cricket, says Mohammad Nabi
“Afghanistan have played very well and they have won two matches. Is there any kind of fears that when you return home, you will be questioned as the government and situation have changed?” the journalist asked.
“In this new era, Afghanistan share a healthy relation with Pakistan. Do you feel that the Afghan team will be strengthened because of this?” the journalist questioned further.
Taken a little aback by the questions, Nabi replied, “Can we talk about cricket leaving aside the situation? It would be better if we talk about cricket. We are here for the World Cup after taking proper preparations. So, you may ask any questions related to cricket.”
However, despite Nabi not wanting to answer the question, the journalist kept on urging him. The one, who was in charge of the press conference, asked the journo to not ask Nabi the questions. Thereafter, the presser came to an end and Nabi walked away gracefully.
Whoever this journalist is a disgrace to journalism and cricket – and all respect for Muhammad Nabi for handling the situation gracefully. Respect and love 💗 pic.twitter.com/ICpCQV3hjs

After electing to bat first, Afghanistan posted 147 for six in their 20 overs. Nabi and Gulbadin Naib scored 35 runs apiece to take their team to a respectable score. While defending the total, the Afghans fought hard as Pakistan needed 24 runs to win off their last 12 balls.
But Asif Ali smashed Karim Janat for four sixes in the penultimate over to deny Afghanistan the victory in Dubai. Afghanistan will next face Namibia on October 31.
