"Cant frame different rules for Rahul Dravid and the rest", says a senior BCCI official
The BCCI wants to use one parameter for everyone now.
Rahul Dravid might have avoided any major controversy during his playing career but of late he has been in talks for holding dual positions as the coach of the India A, U19 teams as well as the mentor of the Delhi Daredevils. Former CoA member Ramachandra Guha termed his case a conflict of interest and thus before signing a two-year extension contract with the board as the coach of the junior teams, Dravid quit from the DD team.
A senior BCCI official has now stated that the board can’t frame different rules and regulations for different players, precisely, for Dravid and the rest. He said this in lieu of fact that the former Indian captain was stripped off as the mentor of the Daredevils and was awarded a new and longer contract from BCCI to be the head coach of India A and Indian Under-19 side.
Many reports believe that Bharat Arun is the front runner to be the bowling coach of team India under Ravi Shastri’s leadership but Arun was contracted to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL last season and will be coaching one of the teams in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
Throwing light on this matter, the official said that an action would be taken once a final decision is made on his appointment. Which means, if Bharat is roped in as the full-time bowling coach, he might have to quit his other coaching positions to solely concentrate on the national team.
“I tell Rahul Dravid you can’t do an IPL, but [then] I [can’t] tell the others you can do what you do and I will pay you,” the official said.
Dravid not to travel overseas as batting consultant?
According to Cricinfo, The current U 19 & India A coach, Rahul Dravid has clearly told the board that he cannot travel overseas. He is happy to attend any national camps organised in India and share his views with the players.
Too much chaos in Indian cricket
There has been chaos internally in the BCCI since Anil Kumble’s resignation as the head coach of Indian cricket. From Kumble openly accepting the fact that there were some misunderstandings between him and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to various reports on Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan’s appointment to that of the coaching staff, everything right now is unclear.
The BCCI official said that a committee which was appointed to negotiate if Dravid and Zaheer’s services are really needed will decide if the duo will really be a part of the coaching staff. He also mentioned that the BCCI should be “consistent” with its conflict policies, pointing out the confusions in the appointment of Zaheer and Dravid.
