Rohit Sharma‘s stint as India’s full-time ODI skipper has already got off to a winning start with the hosts taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against the West Indies. Having won the first two games conveniently, the Indian team would be hoping to register a whitewash in the inconsequential third ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. Meanwhile, the Windies would be looking to salvage their pride by coming out on top in the dead rubber.
Ahead of the third and final One Day International on Friday, wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal seemed to be in a mood to have some fun and he decided to have it at Rohit’s expense. It so happened that a focussed limited-overs skipper was heard scolding Chahal and asked him to quickly run back to his fielding position during the second ODI on Wednesday when the game was evenly poised.
Yuzvendra Chahal makes fun of Rohit Sharma
The video of Sharma scolding the leggie went viral on social media in no time and Chahal, who is a prankster in the Indian dressing room made use of his sense of humor to take a dig at his captain. Taking to the micro-blogging site, the Haryana cricketer came up with a hilarious reply for the same. He wrote ‘Captain ka hukum sarankhon par’.
Rohit was on the serious mode in the 45th over of the West Indies run chase just when it seemed that the tail-enders Odean Smith and Alzarri Joseph would run away with the match.
“Ek kaam kar peeche jaa, idhar aa. Kya hua tereko bhaag kyu nahi raha hai theek se? Chal udhar bhaag”, Rohit Sharma was heard saying to Yuzvendra Chahal.
Coming back to the contest, India posted a fighting total of 237/9 from their 50 overs riding on a splendid 64 from Suryakumar Yadav and 49 runs from vice-captain KL Rahul. The middle-order duo of Washington Sundar (24) and Deepak Hooda (29) also added some precious runs at the backend of the Indian innings. In reply, Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna bowled a match-winning spell and ensured that India ended up registering a 44-run win. He finished his spell with figures of 4/12 from his nine overs at an economy rate of 1.3 including three maidens.
