Caribbean Premier League 2020: Final, Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Lucia Zouks – Statistical Preview
Here are some of key stats and numbers ahead of the CPL 2020 final between Trinidad and St Lucia.
The 2020 CPL final will be played between the league’s most successful side Trinbago Knight Riders and league’s worst team, St Lucia Zouks. Despite their poor history in CPL, the St Lucia franchise, led by Daren Sammy, made it to the final for the first time. Their strategy of heavy spin usage on slower tracks this year fetched them good results. On the other hand, Trinbago team have won each of the 11 matches they played in the tournament and will be eager to make it 12 in a row on Thursday.
Here are some of key stats and numbers ahead of the CPL 2020 final between Trinidad and St Lucia:
1 – Trinbago Knight Riders have won each of their last 11 matches in the Caribbean Premier League. If they win the final on Thursday, they will break the record for most consecutive CPL victories which is currently held by Guyana Amazon Warriors with 11 matches in 2019 edition. The Knight Riders have won each of their last 8 matches at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium which will be hosting the final.
3/3 – The Trinidad franchise has won all the three finals they were part of in the CPL thus far – 2015, 2017 and 2018. If TKR wins the final on Thursday, they will have CPL titles twice the number of the next best (2 each for Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents).
7 – The St Lucia Zouks have won seven matches in the 2020 CPL thus far which are the most the franchise won in an edition of CPL. They won six matches during the league phase in 2016 before crashing out in the semi-final.
10 – TKR team will start the final on the back of a 10-match unbeaten streak in the CPL against the St Lucia Zouks. Out of those ten matches, Trinbago won nine of them while St Lucia’s home fixture last year ended in a washout. Overall, TKR has won on 12 occasions in 16 meetings against the Zouks who won only two games with another two ending without a result.
16 – The 16 wickets by Scott Kuggeleijn in this CPL are the most for St Lucia franchise in an edition of CPL. The next most are 13 wickets each by Jerome Taylor (in 2016), Delorn Johnson (in 2016) and Kesrick Williams in the current edition.
110.3 – The St Lucia Zouks’ spinners bowled as many as 110.3 overs in the tournament and picked up as many as 40 wickets. They had an average of 15.15 and an economy rate of 5.48 only. The St Lucia pacers, on the other hand, did pick 34 wickets in only 82 overs but conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.57.
1966 – Kieron Pollard has scored 1966 runs in the Caribbean League thus far. He needs 34 more runs to become just the 5th player to aggregate 2000+ runs in this league.
2352 – Lendl Simmons is currently the 2nd highest run-getter in the Caribbean Premier League having scored 2352 runs. He needs three more runs to become the top-scorer in CPL history by surpassing Chris Gayle’s tally of 2354 runs.
During the semi-final, Simmons (18) went past Gayle (17) in the list of most 50+ scores in CPL. Lendl is also 74 runs away from completing 7000 runs in the Twenty20 format having scored 6926 runs thus far.
