Cricket is slowly but steadily getting back on track amid the COVID-19 outbreak with the resumption of international cricket. Along with the international scenario, many domestic leagues are also slated to get underway amid the pandemic.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is also scheduled to kick off from August 18, with all matches taking place across two stadiums in Trinidad & Tobago. The tournament will be spread across August and September and 33 matches will be played during these two months.

The Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba will host 23 games, including the semi-finals and final, and the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain will have 10 matches. In the wake of COVID-19 debacle, the players will be seen following the safety protocols and the tournament will take place behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment.

The CPL will feature many exciting talents who will battle it out in the middle for their respective franchises. The first match will see last year’s runners-up, Guyana Amazon Warriors, take on Trinbago Knight Riders, while the second game will be last year’s champions, Barbados Tridents taking on St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

“This year will be a different CPL, but the standard will be higher than ever. We have seen the appetite for live sport since it has returned after a prolonged absence, and the interest in CPL will be higher than ever with it being the first franchise T20 tournament to return,” said CPL’s CEO Damien O’Donohoe on the upcoming season of the T20 extravaganza.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the government of Trinidad & Tobago for helping us to put on this tournament in such difficult circumstances. We are delighted that we are able to deliver a tournament that is ensuring the safety of the public and the players and that will be of such a high standard,” said CPL’s COO Pete Russell about staging the tournament during such stern times.
