Carl Hopkinson has been appointed as the ECB Fielding Coach
The former Sussex cricketer will now serve as the fielding specialist for the England team.
After England Team suffered a humiliating in the Ashes series, the Englishmen have looked a different side altogether. Having suffered a setback in the Test arena to 4-1 in the ODI series, the turnaround has been nothing short of phenomenal. It will not be wrong to say that they have been able to notch their game standards, which eventually has helped to get their hands on the Trophy.
Further, all these efforts have been possible only under the guidance of their coaches, who have been working regressively with full fortitude in the background to get the result by the young guns in the middle. The Englishmen didn’t have a fielding coach for quite some time, and eyeing to this, David Parsons has appointed Carl Hopkinson as the ECB’s new Lead Fielding Coach.
The County Championship winner, Carl Hopkinson in 2006 with Sussex, has spent the last seven years on the coaching staff at Hove specializing in fielding. He will start work in April, filling the vacancy left by Chris Taylor’s move to Surrey as fielding consultant. He will be eyeing to share his priceless inputs with young English teams and give them the desired results.
Sharing his joy with media he said, “I’m honored to have been given this fantastic opportunity to not only develop the fielding of English cricketers within the ECB pathway but to also work closely with counties to help improve the overall standard of fielding throughout the country.”
“I’d like to thank Sussex Cricket for their years of support both as a player and a coach. The development opportunities given to me by the club have been outstanding and have allowed me to take this next step in my career,” he added.
David Parson believes Carl is the ‘perfect man’ to fit in
David Parsons, the ECB’s Performance Director, said: “This is an important role, working with the most talented players on the Men’s International Pathway and the England team, and also alongside the county network to raise the standards of fielding across the game.”
“Carl is a perfect fit for that, given his extensive experience of the county game, and the respect he has gained through his work with Sussex. He is an excellent coach, is passionate and committed to fielding, and has developed an outstanding technical knowledge. He has worked on the Pathway previously on Lions and Young Lions programmes and led the delivery of the Level 4 Fielding Module. I am confident that his appointment will be welcomed by players and counties alike,” he concluded.
