Carlos Brathwaite, the hero for the West Indies in the World T20 2016 final may be the ‘chosen one’ as far as the replacement for the T20 skipper for the West Indies goes. The Barbadian all-rounder has been a mainstay of the West Indies side across all three formats since 2011 and has now been tipped to take over from skipper Darren Sammy.

The 33-year old St. Lucian was relieved of his captaincy services when he released an emotional video message via his official facebook page.

At the moment, should the 27-year old Brathwaite be appointed to the role, his first taste of international action will certainly come against the Indians when they take on MS Dhoni and his men in a two-match T20 series in Florida at the end of the ongoing Test series.

According to some, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) were not too pleased following some of the comments made by him following the end of the World T20. As a result, he has been removed as captain and Brathwaite will now take over the mantle of leadership.

Sammy who has led St. Lucia Zouks (SLZ) in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016 can now consider his regional career over. Sammy’s commentary career kicked off as well earlier this year when he was part of the commentary team for the IPL.

Some speculate that the thinking of the WICB could perhaps be that they are contemplating a team that will serve them for the future. The West Indies is likely to be without many of the players who played at the WT20 in India for the upcoming two matches in Florida, as the selectors want to build a new team with younger players.
