Uday Shankar, CEO of Star India, hits back at Wasim Akram’s comment on its broadcast channel only showing highlights India only defeating their opponents and not the ones where they are faced defeat. Akram claimed that the Indian team is only portrayed as an invincible unit.

Shankar stated that the channel would not opt to show the Indian fans an event where their stars lost badly to an opposition. Also, he stated that Akram and the Pakistanis should not be offended by the Mauka-Mauka campaign which is only intended to create friendly banter and not hurting national sentiments.

Prior to the finals of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan has had a dismal record against India for many years now in an ICC Event. Indians are still undefeated against Pakistan in all World Cup events. In fact, it is only in the Champions Trophy that India faced defeat against Pakistan (2004, 2009, 2017).

The failure of the men in green to overhaul the Indian sparked the idea of the ‘Mauka Mauka’ campaign. This advertisement series has created a lot of unnecessary friction between the fan bases of the two countries, especially in social media.

No need to get touchy about Mauka-Mauka series: Shankar

“So is Wasim Akram saying I should show the Indian fans matches where their team lost badly? All the bi-lateral series adverts have a nationalistic tinge to them because that’s how the norm is worldwide. What is the context of a bilateral match? We call it the national team,” claimed Uday Shakar according to Sportskeeda.

“When two nations take on each other, where else will the national sentiment come? It happens in every country. When England and Australia play the Ashes, exactly the same thing happens. Why do we get touchy about it?” questioned the CEO of Star India, who recently bagged the IPL media rights for a whopping sum of over 16,000 crores INR.
