Chacha Cricket tweets he is alive after his death rumours on social media
With increasing age and no home cricket in Pakistan, he hasn't been seen in recent years.
Sufu Abdul Jalil aka ‘Chacha Cricket’, Pakistan’s famous cricket mascot is well known in the entire world. He was used to be seen in various cricket matches that the Pakistan Cricket Team was part of. Recently a photo went viral on social media that claimed Chacha cricket has passed away. However, he has now posted a video on social media to shut down the rumours of his death.
Abdul Jalil has been a cricket fanatic for over 50 years and has watched almost every Pakistan match in the 90s and early 2000s. He also shares great relations with several cricketers from India and Pakistan. However, with increasing age and no home cricket in Pakistan, Jalil hasn’t been seen in recent years.
“Death is a reality, it will come and no one will save [me] from it,” he said in the video. “Whoever posted my picture on Facebook and spread this fake news [of my death], may Allah give him Hidayat (guidance) as well. I am alive and well.”
Chacha Cricket: The most popular mascot of Pakistan cricket
Chacha Cricket, Pakistan’s popular mascot was born in 1949 in Sialkot. He is the same guy who used to be at the stadium cheering for his country. He got the popularity in the 80s when he used work in UAE and that provided him with the opportunity to watch all of Pakistan’s matches at Sharjah. He usually wears green Kurta Pyjama with Pakistan’s flag in hand. He is known as a lucky mascot of Pakistan and even the opposition fan armies like the Barmy army are in good contacts with him.
However, to watch the games more often, he left his job and started travelling around the globe to watch Pakistan’s matches. With his rising popularity, fellow cricket fans and cricketers began to recognize him and PCB hired him full-time and his tickets were sponsored from the board. The uniform he used to wear on match days became quite popular. He currently resides jn Manchester. He is active on social media as well as the posts stuff on YouTube and Twitter regularly.
