Chaminda Vaas backs team India to do well in Champions Trophy 2017
"More than bowling the batters (batsmen) in the Indian side will do well in the Champions Trophy," quoted Vaas.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chaminda Vaas believes that the Indian team will have a very good time in the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. Team India will head into the tournament as the defending champions and will have a strong case in their favor this time around as well. If the words of the former Sri Lankan cricketer are to be believed, the Indian team has good variety in their squad.
As per the recent quotes in the Indian Express, Chaminda Vaas noted that the players are very talented. However, it all comes down to how well they manage to assess and adapt to the conditions. The Indian team has a very settled bowling lineup with a lot of variations. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are all different bowlers but equally effective.
But Chaminda Vaas believes that it will be the Indian batsmen who will rule the roost in the ICC mega event. They will hold the key to India’s chances in the tournament.
“These guys (the bowlers) are really good, but how they assess the conditions in England (will be crucial). India has talent, combinations, different bowling attack (variety) swing, seam, but I am sure that they will use their experience and they will do well. More than bowling the batters (batsmen) in the Indian side will do well in the Champions Trophy,” quoted Vaas.
A word of Sri Lanka
Commenting on the composition of the Sri Lanka team, Vaas believes that the team is under transition phase after the retirement of the big names. He backed the Islanders to give their hundred percent in the tournament.
“Sri Lanka after Mahela (Jayawardene) and Kumara (Sangakkara) are in a transition (phase). They are trying to build a team and whoever is in the team will give 100 per cent and try and do well (in the Champions Trophy),” Vaas conceded.
