Chance of a Hat-trick for Bangladesh- South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh: Series Preview: South Africa set to take on rising stars of the World Cricket, Bangladesh in Bangladesh who are in a brilliant form after defeating Pakistan and India. The series will be a good opportunity for Bangladesh to prove their recent victories weren’t any fluke.

Also this South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh is the first international tour between these two teams in last 7 years. Last tour between the teams was when Bangladesh flied to South Africa for 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches which all were won by the Africans in 2008 Nov-Dec. Earlier in the same year, South Africa made its tour to Bangladesh for same 3 ODIs and 2 Tests and completed clean sweep against the hosts.

The tour starts with a 2 match T20I series to be played at Shere Bangla Stadium, Mirpur. The first will be played on Sunday.

Head to head in T20Is:

The two sides faced in T20Is twice before first in the 1st edition of World T20 where South Africa chased down target of 145 set by Bangladesh by losing 3 wickets and 7 balls to spare. The 2nd time been at Johannesburg in a rain effected match where Bangladesh collapsed in chase from a comfortable position to fall short of 12 runs by D/L method.

After 2 match T20I series, Bangladesh will play South Africa in 3 ODIs starting on 10th July with first 2 ODIs to be played at Mirpur and the final ODI at Chittagong.

Bangladesh has recently record a streak of 10 ODI wins in a row at home in the process they clean swept Pakistan and Zimbabwe and also won their first ever series against India. ODI results for Bangladesh have been brilliant in last 12 months as they have the best win/loss record in this period in ODIs after Australia. In absence of couple of regular players South Africa, who were rusty in recent World Cup might be facing a challenge against the hosts.

Head to head in ODIs:

The two sides faced each other in 15 ODIs before, with South Africa winning 13 of those. Bangladesh managed to win an ODI as they defeated South Africa in the ODI World Cup in 2007 by 77 runs, also the only time they defeated them in International Cricket. Another match between the two sides got washed out.

However, these two sides haven’t played an ODI in last 4 years as their last meeting was in 2011 World Cup where South Africa defeated the hosting team by 206 runs. This match was also their only meeting in all forms of Cricket since 2008 when they were part of a full tour.

The tour later moves towards the end with Bangladesh and South Africa taking part in 2 match Test series. They will be playing a Test against each other for the first time in 7 years. Despite having been good in limited overs formats, Bangladesh need to prove a lot when it comes to the longer format. They are good enough to challenge South Africa with their fight but need to be threatening good to defeat them instead of settling with draw.

The two sides have faced each other in 8 test matches before with South Africa winning all those 8 matches. South Africa won 7 of those by innings margin and the other game by 5 wickets.
