The negotiations of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with former national cricketer Chandika Hathurusingha have reached the success point. The recent reports suggest that Chandika is all set to become the head coach of the Sri Lankan national cricket side after the conclusion of their ongoing tour of India. Team Sri Lanka have had a very tough phase in the last twelve months or so.
Chandika Hathurusingha was associated with the Bangladesh national side prior to this new assignment. Under his coaching, team Bangladesh saw a resurgence in the world cricket and ended up being the semi-finalists of the ICC Champions Trophy this year. Barring their recent embarrassment in South Africa, Bangladesh flourished under the services of Chandika.
Now, the Sri Lanka team hopes for a similar twist in fortunes. They hope to see a revival in their cricketing structure. As per the recent reports in bdcrictime, Chandika Hathurusingha is all set to become the highest paid Sri Lankan coach ever. He is set to receive a pay package of US$ 300,000 from the SLC. The SLC expressed their happiness over the new appointment.
“We are glad that the negotiations have been successful. He visited the board and then took a look at the facilities we have in place. He is very close to our Vice-President Mr. Kangatharan Mathivanan and it is he who convinced Hathurusingha to take over as Head Coach and he is leading the negotiations from our side,” a source quoted.
Experienced in his trade
The Bangladesh Cricket Board and the SLC had a tough competition between themselves as they wanted the services of Hathurusingha. Prior to his association with the Bangladesh side, Chandika had served as a coach in the Australian domestic circuit. He was also the Assistant Coach of the Sri Lanka team when Trevor Bayliss was the head coach of the national side.
