The Vidarbha team will be mentored by none other than Chandrakant Pandit in the upcoming season. The appointment comes as a blessing for Vidarbha, considering the tremendous record of Pandit as the coach of Mumbai in the past two years.

The main story:

The Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) came up with the decision to rope in the highly successful Chandrakant Pandit as the head coach. The Vidarbha senior women’s team will be coached by Anju Jain, who is a former Indian international and played as the wicketkeeper in the side.

Apart from the notable appointment in the coaching department Vidarbha also bagged Indian Test player Karn Sharma which will act as a major boost to the squad. The useful all-rounder moved on from his previous team Railways to engage himself with the Mumbai team.

Pandit will take over the proceedings from fellow Mumbaikar Paras Mhambrey. Paras Mhambrey, who was Vidarbha’s previous head coach has been assigned with national duty as he will now be the bowling coach of the India ‘A’ team. Chandrakant was a clear cut option available to the association as soon as Mhambrey handed over his resignation on Wednesday.

Chandrakant Pandit who has represented the national side in 5 Tests and 36 ODIs has been the coach of the Mumbai team for the last two years. It will be safe to say that the team has tasted gigantic success under Pandit’s mentorship.

Pandit rode Mumbai to theiri 41st Ranji Trophy title in 2015-16 season and he also took the team to the finals of the 2016-17 season. Unfortunately, the team could not pass the final hurdle that time losing to Gujarat in the finals.

Despite a glorious tenure, Mumbai Cricket Association brought in Pravin Amre as their new head coach, removing Pandit. However, Wasim Jaffer, who is also from Mumbai and has been an Indian international too also showed his eagerness to take up the Vidarbha coaching role. But the VCA opted to go with Chandrakant Pandit.
