The selection panel has the huge responsibility of picking a mix of players who have been doing well along with those who have the promise to perform. Without correct and wise team selection a team cannot move forward. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hence wanting to bring the best into the selection panel. After the board’s meeting on Sunday, its president Nazmul Hasan Papon highlighted a couple of changes in the present panel which is headed by Minhajul Abedin.
BCB chief spoke about the possible replacement of one of the three members of the selection committee which includes Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Habibul Bashar Shumon and Sazzad Hossain Shipon. Abedin, who captained the national side for a brief period in the early nineties, has been a core member of the selectors. He played for Bangladesh from 1986 to 1999. The term of the current selection panel already expired on June 30 but was extended for a year, a decision which the board is now reviewing.
“We had extended the term of the present selection panel up to one year after the contract expired. Decision has been taken to change one of the three members of the panel. It might be senior to junior or junior to senior. In that case, a junior member could become a part of the selection panel. Hope it will bring goodness for us,” Nazmul was quoted by bdcrictime as saying after the meeting on Sunday.
Sazzad Hossain Shipon may lose his job
It was Sazzad Hossain Shipon who will be replaced because he hasn’t been a part of the panel since it was formed. Shipon’s inclusion was sudden after he was named a replacement for former chief selector Faruq Ahmed who suddenly put down his papers. However, the need for reshuffling the members of the senior selection committee and the junior selection committee is still not clear.
