The Delhi Police filed a supplementary charge sheet before a city court against former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and many others. A report was filed under various different sections of the Indian Penal Code. It was alleged that Gautam Gambhir and the others were involved in a criminal breach of trust and cheated flat buyers.
The cricketer-turned-politician was a director and a brand ambassador of the joint project of Rudra Buildwell Realty Pvt Ltd and HR Infracity Pvt Ltd. A case was lodged against this project for cheating people of crores of rupees on the pretext of booking apartments in the housing project. In 2011, over 50 buyers purchased flats in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram. However, this venture never turned out to be a reality.
The project was extensively promoted and advertised by Gautam Gambhir
In its charge sheet, the police alleged that “the developers executed Builder Buyer Agreement with the victims in June-July, 2014 even after the expiry of sanctioned building plan on June 6, 2013. Developers have been demanding and collecting money from the victims unauthorizedly even after June 23, 2013.”
It was alleged that the investors have deliberately kept in dark about the litigations involving the proposed site of land. The sanctions and approvals for the project were cancelled by the authorities in 2015 due to the default of payments of requisite licence fees etc. and non-compliance of other formalities.
“Investors have been deliberately kept in dark about the litigations involving hr proposed site of land. Authorities cancelled the sanction/ approval etc. for the project on April 15, 2015, due to default of payments of requisite licence fees etc. and non-compliance of other formalities,” the final report said as per NDTV.
Mukesh Khurana, Gautam Mehra and Babita Khurana – the other promoters – were also accused of the same apart from Gautam Gambhir. Moreover, the complainants alleged that the project was extensively promoted and advertised. They said that Gautam Gambhir, as the brand ambassador, was instrumental in attracting and inviting buyers to invest in this project.
“The project was extensively promoted and advertised and Mr Gambhir, as the brand ambassador, helped in attracting and inviting buyers to invest in the project,” the complainants alleged.
