Charu Sharma to conduct the IPL 2022 mega auction, Hugh Edmeades told to rest
The mega auction is set to resume at 3:45 PM IST.
The mega auction ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was halted under unexpected circumstances on Saturday (February 12). The auctioneer Hugh Edmeades fainted and fell off the stage suddenly during the event. An early lunch was taken due to the incident even as the BCCI confirmed that Edmeades is fine and the medical team is attending him.
Meanwhile, the auction is set to resume at 3:45 PM IST but Edmeades won’t be conducting the auction. Cricket Presenter Charu Sharma will be taking over for the rest of the day as Edmeades has been told to rest after the unfortunate incident.
“Mr. Hugh Edmeades, the IPL Auctioneer, had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension during the IPL Auction this afternoon. The medical team attended to him immediately after the incident & he is stable. Mr. Charu Sharma will continue with the Auction proceedings today,” IPL tweeted.
BCCI’s statement on Hugh Edmeades
Soon after the incident took place, cricketing fraternity was worried for Hugh Edmeades as the tweets flooded in for his well being. BCCI was also prompt in giving a quick update about his health which led to many heaving a huge sigh of relief. “Our auctioneer is stable. The medical guys are attending to him. He should be back for the next set,” BCCI had tweeted. However, Edmeades won’t be continuing for now and it remains to be seen if he comes back on Sunday.
Meanwhile, as far as the auction is concerned, Shreyas Iyer is the most expensive player with KKR shelling a whopping amount of 12.25 crore for him. Jason Holder also attracted a lot of interested from franchises and was eventually sold to Lucknow Super Giants for INR 8.75 crore. Harshal Patel was the second most expensive player with RCB going all out for him to bag his services for INR 10.75 crore.
Even Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was set to get bid for an amount of more than INR 10 crore. But during his bidding process only, Hugh Edmeades fell ill and it will be interesting to see how they resume his bidding.
