MS Dhoni hardly finds himself involved in controversies at least on the field, though he did have a heated exchange with the umpires in this season of the IPL. Off the field, he has been in the middle of a long-standing dispute with a Real Estate company, Amrapali group. Dhoni was at one point a brand ambassador of the company and his wife Sakshi reportedly even held stakes. He has now moved to the Supreme Court against the group on being cheated.

Dhoni seeks SC’s support in getting possession of a penthouse in an Amrapali project that he had booked in Amrapali Safari to be built in Ranchi. He also wants his name to be included in the list of creditors of the company as they owe him crores. The cricketer claims to have been duped by the group as he still has outstanding payment for being their brand ambassador.

Amrapali owes Dhoni 40 crore

It was last month that the former Indian captain had requested the apex Indian court to ensure the Amrapali Group pays him Rs 40 crore they owe. Dhoni was the brand ambassador of the company for 7 years between 2009 to 2016. He was on the posters of the brand as well as on advertisement campaigns.

In the midst of all that, Amarapali Group had financial issues. Thereafter more than 45,000 people who had paid money to buy property went to the Supreme Court for getting possession of the property. SC in one of its previous orders had directed that the property of the Amrapali Group as well as of those involved with it along with the directors be attached.

To give the affected people relief the court had on January 25 this year asked NBCC (India) Ltd, previously known as National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd, to take up the project and complete a couple of housing projects by Amrapali that were hampered.

In February, the court took a firm stand in investor interest and even sent Anil Sharma, CMD of the Amrapali Group along with two directors Shiv Deewani and Ajay Kumar to police custody. SC is still hearing the case.
