Chennai Super Kings need to play Dwaine Pretorius over Chris Jordan: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer had a view for newly recruited Pathirana as well.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been average in their IPL 2022 campaign, securing only a single win in six matches. The team has done well on the batting front but has lacked the potency to pick wickets in a consistent manner. In Match 33 of the tournament, they went against Mumbai Indians (MI). Ahead of this encounter, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer spoke on the positives and negatives for the CSK team.
Jaffer reckoned that the team started well in both departments in the last fixture against GT, with Ruturaj Gaikwad providing a good start, while Maheesh Theeksana has been getting wickets in the powerplay overs since his debut. He further went on to say that the likes of Robin Uthappa, Shivam Dube, and Ambati Rayudu have come good for the team and need to maintain the same form. The former Indian cricketer felt that Dwaine Pretorius needs to replace Chris Jordan in the CSK side as he has performed well.
“With Ruturaj [Gaikwad] performing in the last game, and [Maheesh] Theekshana picking consistent wickets, they have started their batting and bowling department ends. Unfortunately they lost the match to Titans, which can happen, but I think Chennai is ticking most boxes. [Robin] Uthappa and [Shivam] Dube have performed quite well so far, while Rayudu has looked good. You certainly need [Dwaine] Pretorius instead of Jordan, as he had done well and you have benched him,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.
Maheesh Pathirana can get an opportunity soon: Wasim Jaffer
On April 21, CSK announced Sri Lanka pacer Maheesh Pathirana as a replacement of Adam Milne. On being asked about Pathirana, Jaffer felt that the young pacer has a rapid pace and can get an opportunity as soon as he is available for selection due to bowling woes of CSK. The pacer was also the reserve player of the CSK in IPL 2021 and might have impressed the team management.
“He is someone who has played the U19 World Cup as well if I am not wrong. He must have modeled his action, and we have seen him on Instagram; he has slingy action and is quite rapid in pace. If we observe in the IPL, it is the mystery bowler who bowls with strange actions do come good. I think it’s not a bad addition, and we might Pathirana him soon in CSK XI,” Jaffer added.
