Chennai Super Kings welcome the new look Delhi Capitals

The Delhi franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) recently announced a new name for their team for the upcoming editions of the tournament. Formerly known as the Delhi Daredevils, the team will now play under the name of ‘Delhi Capitals’. The owners of the franchise recently made the announcement in the media and confirmed the reports of the name change.

The name might have changed, but the team’s core group is set to be the same for the next edition of the tournament. The owners confirmed this as well citing that young Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the side in IPL 2019.

Soon after the announcement of the new name, the official social media handle of the Chennai Super Kings took to Twitter to welcome the ‘new’ team onboard. They expressed their happiness at the arrival of the new name for the franchise. They welcomed the Delhi Capitals in Chennai as well by quoting ‘varuga varuga thala nagaram’. The Tamil phrase translates to ‘Welcome welcome thala city’.

Here is the tweet that the CSK Twitter handle came up with

Commenting on the name change, the co-owners of the franchise Parth Jindal (JSW Sport) and Kiran Kumar Gandhi of GMR unveiled the new name at a media event recently. They also unveiled the new logo of the team. It is worth noting that the Delhi franchise has never won the IPL title.

The owners believe that the change in name could bring in better fortunes for them. Also, a new CEO is expected to be announced by the franchise soon, who would be in charge of the day-to-day activities of the team.

A couple of weeks later, the IPL auctions are set to take place. The Delhi Capitals will have INR 25 crore to spend at the auctions which is set to take place on December 18. The owners remarked that they have their plans ready for the auctions and are keen on making smart buys.
