India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is currently going through a tough phase as he has been accused of domestic violence by his wife Hasin Jahan. She had exposed his Whatsapp and Messenger conversations with other girls as well and accused him of extra-marital affairs. Following the serious allegations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) withheld his central contract. However, the former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan feels that the Indian board shouldn’t have done the same as the case has nothing to do with the game of cricket.

The cricketer has rubbished all the allegations over him and also claiming that his wife is mentally unstable. Hasin Jahan also accused Shami of abusing her physically and mentally after which she also filed a complaint against him. Even the police has charged Shami under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The filing of complaint led to his contract held back by BCCI and cleared that they will verify the facts before taking a call on his contract.

Chauhan has his say

Chetan Chauhan, the former cricketer and Uttar Pradesh Minister, felt that Shami has not been found guilty in the matter and they should’ve offered him the annual contract. He also went on to say that the issue is his personal and BCCI has nothing to do with it. “I think BCCI should not withhold Mohammed Shami ‘s contract as the issue has nothing to do with cricket and also he has not been found guilty yet,” he said while speaking to the reporters on Friday.

Shami’s career is in jeopardy after the police filed the case with non-bailable charges over him. It also remains to be seen if he will be allowed to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where who was retained by Delhi Daredevils by using the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction in January this year.
