While Indian skipper Virat Kohli will grace the English country scene with his presence in a few weeks time, Yorkshire is already doing their homework in a bid to bring down the Indian superstar. Kohli has signed a one-month deal with English county side Surrey ahead of India’s tour to England. The India captain is set to feature in both the Royal London One Day Cup and the County Championship next month.

The 29-year-old heads to Scarborough, for the final game of three as Surrey’s short-term overseas player in the Specsavers County Championship between June 25-28. Yorkshire’s games there are always eagerly anticipated occasions, with this adding an extra edge to things for players and not just punters.

Interestingly, the White Rose has a bit of inside knowledge they can call upon in the form of their own India overseas player Cheteshwar Pujara. In-form new-ball seamer Ben Coad revealed that Pujara has been providing precious tips on how to keep Virat Kohli on a leash.

According to The Telegraphandargus.co.uk, Coad was quoted saying, “Pujara just said ‘Keep it off his legs’. That seems to be the key. Make him come to you and play a patience game with him.”

He added, “I think it will be a bit easier for us at Scarborough with good carry, swing and it nipping around a bit, but he’s a quality player, and we’ll just have to see what we can do.”

Coad picks up an ankle injury

The 24-year-old speedster broke through last year with 50 Championship wickets in his first full season and has started this summer like a house on fire with 23 scalps in his first three appearances. After taking eight in the home win over Nottinghamshire a fortnight ago, he even had to field questions about the increased chances of an England Test call-up.

Coad took six in the thrilling win over champions Essex at Chelmsford over the weekend – Yorkshire’s second in four matches in 2018. However, he picked up an ankle injury which may force him out of Yorkshire’s next match against Surrey at the Kia Oval from Friday.
