The IPL Retention, as expected, created buzz and prepared us all for an exciting build-up ahead of the mega-auction that will take place later this month. The buzz is probably the loudest for one franchise in particular, the Chennai Super Kings, who are making a comeback after a 2-year long hiatus. In tandem with popular opinion, Chennai’s Thala, MS Dhoni and Chinna Thala, Suresh Raina became the two natural choices for retention, along with Singakutty, Ravindra Jadeja as the third retention.
Earlier, MS Dhoni was seen sealing the deal as he signed the stamp papers of the contract as he resumed the role of captain for the side. Suresh Raina was seen speaking to his CSK fans after signing the papers. As CSK opted to retain three players, their auction purse of INR 80 Crore was deducted by 33 Crore (15 Crore for the first player, 11 Crore for the second and 7 for the third).
Suresh Raina’s special message for CSK fans
In a video tweeted by the Chennai Super Kings Twitter handle, Raina said, “Good to be back to CSK after two years and looking forward to play infront of my beautiful and knowledgeable crowd, what I missed in the last two years. See you out there, in Chepauk stadium.”
The CSK Twitter handle, which has been doing a good job at building up the excitement for the comeback of the franchise and keeping the fans connected, tweeted the video saying, “The #KnowledgeableChennaiCrowd awaits you Chinna Thala @ImRaina! ? #ReturnOfTheSuperKings #SummerIsComing #WhistlePodu.”

Raina is currently out of the scheme of things for the Indian squad due to fitness issues and recent poor form but he is regarded as one of the best players in IPL. In 157 innings, he has scored 4,540 runs at an average of 34.14 at a massive strike rate of 139.05. It still remains to be seen whether CSK will use any of their remaining 2 Right to Match cards during the auction, which they can only use for uncapped Indian players or foreign players. The rules pave way for them to retain their star players such as Faf Du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo.
