The former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has shared a heartfelt message on Instagram revealing something that helped him get through the recent health issues that he faced. The former cricketer is currently recovering from a critical condition after heart surgery.
The 51-year-old revealed that poster which his daughter made for him when he was in a critical state. He suffered an aortic dissection and he was on life support for some time. It was only recently when he was taken away from life support and started speaking with his family and friends. He currently lives in Canberra, Australia with his wife and five children.
During the time he was on life support, one of his daughters, who is just 10-year-old made a poster with a quote that helped him get through the tough times. Sharing it on Instagram, Cairns wrote, “My 10 year old daughter is a tennis player, and when I woke up and came out of my haze in ICU I saw that she had made me a poster and Mel stuck it on my wall.”
‘Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can’ – The quote that inspired Chris Cairns
Further, he said that there was a quote by Arthur Ashe, who is a famous Tennis player from America. “It was a quote by Arthur Ashe (fitting as the US Open was also on at the time and got me through a few of those long nights in ICU). ‘Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.’ 500 reps each leg this morning. Going for 600 tomorrow! #notdoneyet #makeitcount #arthurashe #clever10yearold”

After returning back on his feet and being able to communicate properly, Cairns had also updated his fans and well-wishers through social media. He is currently in the rehabilitation process trying his best to recover from the issues which he went through in the last month or two.
Cairns has stayed very much away from the limelight since his retirement. But, the time during his medical issues might have made him a bit more active on social media recently. He had an illustrious career and young fans might not remember how big a cricketer he was in stature and in terms of sheer brilliance. He played 62 Tests, 215 ODIs and two T20Is for New Zealand. He made 3,320 Test runs and took 218 wickets in whites. He picked 201 wickets and scored 4,950 runs in ODIs.
