The Royal Challengers will be without Chris Gayle for the next two matches as the Jamaican has taken the early plane home to be present at the time of his child’s birth. The Royal Challenger’s management didn’t release a comment as the news was broken by Gayle via his Instagram account. The big Jamaican posted a picture on his Instagram page stating “I’m on my way, Baby”.
Chris Gayle also subsequently thanked Qatar Airways after they gave him a celebratory cake. While Gayle boarded the flight to Jamaica, his teammates from the Royal Challengers Bangalore landed in Mumbai to face up to the might of the Mumbai Indians on Monday night. While it is unsure when exactly Gayle will rejoin his teammates, it is certain that he will miss the Royal Challengers matches against Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants this week.
The 36-year old has been in horrific form of late as he has failed to get on the run-scoring board this season. Moreover, Gayle has failed to score over ten runs in his past 5 innings. The big Jamaican will be hoping that fatherhood would have a drastic change in his fortunes with the bat.
Unlike the previous seasons, the loss of Chris Gayle is not expected to have that much of an impact on the Challengers’ quest for glory. Shane Watson may well fill the role of the opening slot given his immense experience playing in such a side. However, should the Challengers become a bit more adventurous, Travis Head may well find himself starting in place of Gayle.
