Chris Gayle hails MS Dhoni as the ‘King’ of India
Swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle heaped praise on Indian limited overs captain MS Dhoni. The big Jamaican was in Chennai for a promotional event of the ongoing inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
During his tour, he has been visiting some of the colleges in the southern part of the country and has also been attending a lot of press meets and media interactions for the same. Chris Gayle also walked the ramp for Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s brand launch ‘YouWeCan’ that aims to help the cancer patients across the nation and the globe.
During an interaction with the official website of the TNPL, Gayle hailed MS Dhoni as the king of Chennai and also the entire nation. Clearly, the kind of fan following MS Dhoni has, speaks volumes about the impact he has had on Indian cricket. He found yet another fan in Chris Gayle. Speaking on MS Dhoni, Gayle commented that MS has been missed by the people of Chennai since last two years and is the king of the city and the nation.
Dhoni has an exceptional record for the Chennai franchise in the Indian Premier League. However, he had to turn up for Rising Pune Supergiants this year following a 2-year ban on the Chennai Super Kings.
“MS (Dhoni) is king in both Chennai as well as India! It won’t be long before he comes back to action (with the Chennai Superkings in the IPL). We have been missing him since the last two years,” quoted Gayle.

Speaking further on the inaugural edition of the T20 league, Gayle identified it as a great launching pad for the youngsters. He admitted the fact that such an event being telecasted on the television and the way it is being promoted, will do great for the young talent in the region. Gayle quoted, “It was a great experience and from what I gather it is a great tournament as well. It has the potential to be even bigger.”
He further went on to say that the tournament could well pave the way for any young player to make it to the IPL as well. He believes the tournament can surely get bigger and better from here on.
“It is a great tournament and to be able to showcase it on TV is even better for the younger players. Also, this is a wonderful opportunity for a particular player to gain selection into the IPL as well. It is really good and I hope it gets bigger and better,” he concluded.
