West Indies entertaining opener Chris Gayle is all set to play the T20I game against England and he unveiled the Windies’ new T20 jersey. A dash of fluorescent green with the traditional marron sums up the new kit. Gayle along with Marlon Samuels and Jerome Taylor have been recalled for the limited overs series against the Three Lions.
West Indies captain Jason Holder is aware of the challenge, as England have improved tremendously in the shorter format of the game, and were tagged as favorites during the Champions Trophy at home.
Windies take on a strong England side
“England are a quality cricket side and they are playing at home. We’re at the stage where we are looking to turn a corner and qualify for the World Cup, whether we have to go through the qualifiers or qualify automatically. We’re excited for the series and hopefully we can play some good cricket. It won’t be an embarrassment to play in the qualifiers. We are where we are and if we do have to play in them, we will take it one step at a time” said skipper Holder.
The one-ff T20I game will take place tomorrow, while the ODI series between the two sides will commence on 19 September.
“The panel welcomes back Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who will both add value to our batting and help with the nurturing of the young batsmen in the team,” said chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.
Gayle is hopeful of a good show
“The fans were happy to see me back on the field representing West Indies,” said Gayle. “Hopefully, things can get better. Hopefully I can play a few more games. “I definitely want to play the 2019 World Cup. “Things are beginning to open up a little more now between players and the board. It’s looking good, and we’ve to try and build from this to get the best players out on the field.”
