Chris Gayle was in brilliant touch, says Sandeep Lamichhane
Lamichhane was the game-changer against KXIP with three wickets to his name.
The Delhi Capitals (DC), on Saturday, survived the Chris Gayle storm as the Universe Boss smashed 69 off just 37 balls before getting out to Sandeep Lamichhane. His wicket proved to be the turning point in the game as the home team restricted put a screeching halt to the Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) run-scoring to restrict them to 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
It was a tough pitch to bat on. But Gayle made it look horrendously easy with his batting by hitting six fours and as many as five huge maximums. Lamichhane was the one who faced the wrath of the batsman at the Kotla. However, the same bowler got the better of Gayle in the 13th over thanks to a superb athleticism by Colin Ingram at the boundary.
Speaking after the match, Sandeep Lamichhane opened up about how difficult it is to bowl at Chris Gayle when he is going great guns. Though the leggie was delighted to have the last laugh in the battle. Rather, Lamichhane scalped Sam Curran in the same over to turn the game on its head.
He was in good form today
“It was much-needed wicket for us. Chris Gayle was looking in good form today. He hit 70 runs in 35 or 36 odd balls. And he was in brilliant touch. Anywhere you would bowl him, he would smash you all over the ground and getting those two wickets in the 13th over, it was really good for us,” Sandeep Lamichhane said in the post-match press conference.
The Nepal leg-spinner was expensive on the day conceding 40 runs in his four-over spell. But he was the most successful bowler as well. He returned with three wickets comprised of KL Rahul as well apart from Gayle and Curran. He will be keen to continue the good show for his team as Delhi Capitals look set to qualify for the playoffs this season for the first time since 2012.
